The works are proceeding according to the established schedule to allow the docking of even larger cruise ships at the second berth of the Maritime Stations. After completing the cutting of the current passenger gangways, which will be replaced by a more modern structure in the final phase of the project, the construction of a new quay edge is underway, which will be extended by about 80 meters, bringing the overall berth length to over 370 meters.
Currently, the works are focused on modifying the perimeter profile, with the construction of a seaward support wall through the installation of secant piles, a series of overlapping piles capable of providing the necessary solidity to support significant weights.
Thanks to the installation of safety fences, operations are proceeding without interfering with cruise activities on the Western side of Ponte dei Mille, which, following the consolidation and enhancement works completed in 2022, is now operating at full capacity.
The next phase of the works, once the construction of the new quay edge is completed, involves the transfer and reuse of the headstocks within the port, followed by the installation of the new passenger gangways.
