Fincosit, a highly specialized company in maritime and fluvial works since 1905, announces that during the night between May 25th and 26th, the touch down of the first caisson of the Genoa Breakwater was completed. The entire operation, which lasted 25 hours until the full filling of the caisson at 8:45 AM on May 26th, involved approximately 22 people, including highly specialized technicians and maritime workers, excluding support equipment. These personnel worked in shifts on board until the operations were completed.
As part of the Genoa Breakwater project, the deepest in Europe, Fincosit was commissioned by the Breakwater Consortium, the contractor for the works, for the construction and placement of cellular caissons. The company is a pioneer and leader in the large-scale construction of reinforced concrete cellular caissons, establishing its supremacy in this particular field over time: notably, the caisson sunk on May 26, 2024, is the 2804th caisson produced by the company in its century-long history.
