The new viaduct, built by Fincosit, is now operational, providing a direct connection between the Genoa Pra’ motorway toll gate and the port basin. This modern, robust, and high-performance infrastructure meets the functional goals set by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority.

The viaduct improves access to the container terminal with a direct link to the main motorway routes toward northwestern Italy and Europe. It also eliminates conflicts with the railway yard, paving the way for future intermodal upgrades, while easing urban traffic and reducing both visual and acoustic impact on the surrounding neighborhood, thus enhancing coexistence between the port and the city.

Constructed with a mixed steel–concrete structure and featuring a streamlined design that minimizes visual clutter compared to the previous infrastructure, the viaduct spans 450 meters across 11 spans. It offers three lanes dedicated to heavy traffic—one more than before—including two inbound lanes to the port to prevent queues near the toll gate, and one outbound lane.

With a total value of €32.4 million, the project required extensive planning and coordination due to the presence of multiple interferences, such as strategic utilities, urban and motorway traffic, the Genoa–Ventimiglia railway line, and the rail yard serving the container terminal. Works began in 2021 and were carried out while maintaining full port operations and minimizing disruption to residents, also thanks to the nighttime installation of the spans during 2024.

The new structure is equipped with next-generation soundproof barriers and innovative longitudinal lamella joints that reduce noise from vehicle passage, minimizing the acoustic impact on the residential area.
